Saturday Recap Week 5

I’ll say this, maybe I need to rant about Mike Leach more often because we really came out looking like we were on the verge of great play.

I didn’t love the poor special teams play, it seems like every time we punt the gunners aren’t able to get big tackles. We missed two more big field goals, and yes we won the game; however, whenever you get to the fourth quarter and you’re only up by 2, it’d be nice to have 6 extra points.

I love the fact that the two teams that talked big shit this week both lost. Lane Kiffin told the crowd to get the popcorn ready, then dropped 0 points in the half, and the A&M cheer boys or whatever called us a middle of the road team that always loses, and we let them take the L home.

Also, the idea that we’re always awful is funny because we are 8-7 against A&M all-time, so if we’re always awful, who the hell are they?

For a school that spends $10 Million a year, you would think that every time they sniff a ranking they wouldn’t shit the bed against the team that spoils their season every so often. Since 2016, we are 4-2, we own college station in the last few years. Most disappointing is that even with 5 star wide outs, 5 star tight ends, and top QB recruits, they still lose to a team that has made its money with 2 and 3 star players.

Back to the best Maroon school in the SEC.

Will Rogers had a flawless game, he throws the ball 59 times and doesn’t turn it over at all. The turnovers have been our big Achilles heel all season, and you can see despite poor red zone play, we can still win a game.

The defense looked alright, considering in the era of the spread offense we only give up 135 yards passing and we stole the ball once, but our strength has been run defense for years and we gave up 162 on the ground. We did get arguably the biggest play of the game in the fourth when Pickering got through and got Calzada for the safety.

Saturday, was a coming out party for Polk frankly. 13 Rec for 126 yards and 2 TD. There were some great plays that come from Will Rogers just letting that rock fly. Yes we primarily hit the underneath routes, but for the first time this season Marks and Johnson weren’t the leading receivers. I think that is going to be the key to success, we have to make the opposing secondaries cover sideline to sideline by getting all the receivers involved.

Also, who is Christian Ford and where did he come from? He hasn’t been involved all year, and on Saturday he seemed to make just about every 3rd down catch. If we needed 5 yards he got us 10. This has to be one of the biggest coming out parties that falls under the radar because Polk had himself a night.

I still don’t love the air raid, I still don’t love the fact that we can’t score consistently in the red zone, and I still don’t love the penalties that pushed us out of kicking range and stalled our drives. However, I do still root for them boys from Starkvegas, I still want nothing but success for all these guys, and like I said in my rant I criticize coaching more than I will players at the college level.

Solid win, love shutting up Aggies, and I love when people talk shit and get clapped.

Lets get ready for Bama…
