What the hell was that about?
For about the 6th straight season Mississippi State has had a close game that we easily could have won, but the refs make an oopsy and we go home with an L. These errors time and time again go against the Bulldogs. As a fan, it is heartbreaking to lose due to the refs. It is one thing to give up 400 yards of offense and look terrible, but when we look decent and lose I get frustrated.
Tonight the Bulldogs looked more like the LA Tech game than they did the NC State game, we faded to oblivion for half the game where our offense couldn’t move the ball, and we strained our defense when we didn’t have to. That being said, our defense really is amazing and they put it on the Tigers for most of the game.
In the fourth quarter we woke up and decided we were going to try to win a football game, and we drove methodically down the field twice and scored with ease. It always feels like Leach is throttling his team when he randomly strings together at will drives that bring his team back into the game.
Will Rogers looked amazing in the fourth and he had some dimes that clawed the team back into the game, we missed both 2 point conversions and that ends up being the difference in the game, but the real crime is the refs botching the punt-return TD and subsequently botching the onside call. I have never seen such a blatant failure of the referees.
What is the point of adding extra help in the booth to assist the 8 on the field if the referees won’t use it or the refs just ignore it.
With shit calls like this, I think the only responsible thing to do is negate the loss, you don’t have to give us the win, but you definitely can’t claim that we lost that game. It has to be resolved by the league. While Mississippi State might be the smallest market and thus the easiest to screw over, you cannot sacrifice the integrity of the game.
I always think to myself that these players deserve so much better. This wasn’t the Alabama game or the LSU game or even the Egg Bowl, but it likely just cost us any chance at the playoffs. Anytime your team remains undefeated, the excitement starts to build, next week when LSU came to town would have been packed, etc, but now we’re both 1 loss teams fighting bottom-feeder status.
